Come Wine With Us – Nederburg Ingenuity Wines JHB

Dani and I have had the honour of attending a number of Come Wine With Us evenings this year as guests to the host Sybil Doms. These evenings are just the best and the two of us can attest to them being our favourite monthly outing.

The Lizamore Gallery on Jan Smuts Avenue created the perfect setting for the latest in the CWWU lineups and the evening that was to follow. The Nederburg Ingenuity range, together with art and delicious food, created a night to remember. We were inspired by what we saw around us, and were treated to a “lesson” of sorts in wine and art. The wine helped to get the creative juices flowing , which we needed because we were equipped with paper and pastel crayons to create a one-of-a-kind wine label.

It was great to see everyone drawing and colouring with child-like enthusiasm. Who said that nights out had to be stuffy and boring?

Culture Kitchen, headed by chef Vanessa Mark and her impressive team, presented the most delicious food.  Dani and I first met Vanessa last year at another CWWU evening and we have followed her progress from working in a kitchen, to starting her own food truck. Dani is especially besotted with Vanessa and to this day still recalls a delicious snoek dish prepared by Vanessa and paired with a Nederburg Heritage blend at last year’s aforementioned CWWU event. Adding to the delicious food was the equally matched service.

With welcome drinks (a delightfully lite Nederburg Ingenuity White), we were served the most delicious tuna tartare. This was definitely the winning dish in both our eyes! It was simply bursting with freshness and flavour and we wished for more.

Mains were Italian and Spanish inspired tapas, as they were accompanied by the Nederburg Italian and Spanish Ingenuity wines, respectively. The Italian Tapas Course consisted of Crispy Arancini, Sicillian Polpetta and Melanzane. The Spanish Tapas Course consisted of Corizo, Tomato and Olive Bruschetta, Bacaiao Beignets w/Smoked Paprika Mayo and Crispy Maize Chips w/Spicy Salsa.

Dessert was also outstanding as we were served Churros with Affogato to dip in. It was simply delicious in that… it was simple and delicious 😉 The strong espresso ensured that the treat wasn’t too sweet, but just perfectly balanced flavours.
Of all the wines, Dani and I loved the Spanish Ingenuity for its robust flavour and delicious pairings.
CWWU evenings are, without a shadow of doubt, worth trying out. You’ll make new friends, reconnect with others, drink delicious wine (and even get the opportunity to purchase some at very low prices), all of this while being served the best food in town.
We’d like to thank Sybil for inviting us and we cannot wait for next year.
