Fleur du Cap Wines – JHB – February

Our most recent event took place on the 21st of February at the authentically African MOYO, Zoo lake. Guests, who were dressed to the nines and boasted “splashes” of African inspired fashion, were treated to a ceremonial hand-cleaning upon arrival, followed by the intricate traditional face painting that guests have come to expect from MOYO. With gorgeous black and white patterns gracing cheeks, foreheads and eyebrows, it was a clear sign that #ShareYourFlair was the perfect choice of theme for the night. Paired with the flavourful and confident Fleur du Cap Wines, the vibrancy that we have come to dish out as Africans was in full effect.

Despite being a pleasant evening, anyone could tell that winter is slowly but surely creeping up on Johannesburg. Who knew, though, that this would be the perfect weather for the outstanding menu and evening that the chefs at MOYO and the Come Wine With Us team had planned? To tide guests over while introductions were made, MOYO’s bread platter was served, infused with the quintessentially African dukkah spice and a chilli and chickpea dip. This paired perfectly with the Fleur du Cap De Vie Natural Light Chenin, a crisp welcome drink ideal for kicking the evening off. This was followed by a starter so perfectly-suited to the weather one can’t help but wonder if the chefs at MOYO are clairvoyant: Free State Sweet Potato Soup, House Salad and a choice of Samoosas that offered a hearty start to the evening’s indulgences. The Sweet Potato Soup was served with delightful Pumpkin Bread Rolls, while overall the starters were paired with the Fleur du Cap Unfiltered Chardonnay.

Mains were paired with the unforgettable Fleur du Cap Essence du Cap Pinot Noir and included an incredible variety African dishes with flavours so strong and authentic you’d be forgiven for thinking they were prepared by your own mother. Served in generous portions, guests could help themselves to a spicy Brinjal dish, freshly prepared spinach, rice, a variety of other vegetables and, perhaps the star of the night, Dombolo—classic African dumplings served atop a meaty stew.

Mains were followed by some top-class entertainment which included an incredible performance from MOYO’s African dancers and some adrenaline-fuelled fire artists! This was followed by a deliciously silky, decadent take on a South African classic: Peppermint Crisp. This was paired with  Fleur du Cap Essence du Cap Pinotage, which perfectly cut the sweetness and richness of the meal. To top things off guests were treated to a final surprise: a block of salted caramel paired with  Fleur du Cap Noble Late Harvest dessert wine, which featured clear notes of litchi and raisins and was a perfect accompaniment to the saltiness of the salted caramel that topped off the evening.

Our Fleur du Cap #ShareYourFlair event at MOYO really was one that not only embraced our culture, but celebrated it too. We certainly look forward to many more evenings like this one. Don’t forget to book your tickets (and bring your friends) to our April event where we will be enjoying our first-ever Come Braai and Wine With Us, in association with Durbanville Hills Wines, Chef Tjaart and WEBER.
