Come Wine With Us isn’t only about the wine, it’s about the experience, and our most recent #DowntownJazzEvening proved exactly that. Guests arrived at Melville’s The Lonely Hearts Club dressed to the nines, ready for an evening of jazz and the exceptional food, wine and conversation that has come to be expected of Come Wine With Us events.
The Lonely Hearts Club is a tapas bar and restaurant situated on Melville’s 7th Street – one of Johannesburg’s trendiest spots at the moment – and proved to be the perfect spot for a jazz-inspired evening. The restaurant’s speakeasy-esque atmosphere made for the perfect place to enjoy some saxophone from African jazz artist Saxokay while sipping on various – but equally delightful – Pierre Jourdan wine, MCC and more.
The first Pierre Jourdan for guests to enjoy was the Pierre Jourdan Belle Rose MCC, which delivered a lively presentation of rich strawberry and cherry flavours derived from Pinot Noir with an elegant dry finish. In the spirit of sharing, starters were presented in the form of a sharing table and served alongside Pierre Jourdan’s Tranquille – a gentle elegant wine with a fragrant bouquet, fine fruit and a dry finish. The sharing table consisted of charcoal baked camembert, crunchy whole nut hummus, pickled red pepper and courgettes, spicy tzatziki, baba ganoush and a platter of roasted vegetables. All served alongside flatbreads and sweet vegan bread.
Putting the “main” in main event, the evening’s main meals left guests raving. Paired with the Pierre Jourdan Brut MCC where Chardonnay and Pinot Noir determine the style: Chardonnay contributes elegance, Pinot Noir intensity and richness. Guests could choose one of three options as their main meal: crispy cumin lamb served with wild mushrooms and herb pearl barley salad, creamy turmeric kingklip curry served with papadum and tomato sambal, or zesty white wine and wild mushroom risotto.
Dessert combined the featured Pierre Jourdan Ratafia – a delicious digestif specially organised for Come Wine With Us as it is usually only available on order – with an Eton mess, rounding off a truly perfect menu and an evening that can not soon be replicated. Guests were also surprised with Pierre Jourdan Ratafia popsicles.
Just as it has come to be expected, guests left the evening satisfied and hosts to a range of unforgettable memories, rooted in a unique experience and perfectly paired food and wine. Don’t miss out on our upcoming May and June events, which promise to be as enjoyable as our #DowntownJazzEvening – book your tickets today to avoid disappointment.
