After our last two Come Whisky With Us events, it was about time for some wine. With Father’s Day having been in June, there was no better theme in our minds than “Like Father, Like Son”. The perfect setting? A steakhouse, of course. But not just any steakhouse: our event was hosted at Cowboys & Cooks, an exceptional steakhouse renowned not only for their mouth-watering food (with special mention to their bone marrow dish), but also their unparallelled service. To complete this perfect set-up, musician Harry Campbell Senior set the tone. Complimenting the evening in its entirety were Allesverloren Wines, which were lovingly paired with the best meals to create an unforgettable evening.
As people who appreciate wine, there’s nothing quite like proving to others that any wine may be an any-season drink – reds aren’t only meant for winter and whites aren’t only meant for summer. The proof is in the pudding, they say, and for us the equivalent was opening our evening with an Allesverloren Chenin Blanc despite the crisp weather and Cape Town’s winter winds.
Next in the line-up was the Allesverloren Tres Vermelhos, which was paired with a trio starter consisting of roasted marrow, beef carpaccio and truffle-infused cauliflower soup. The marrow and carpaccio were served alongside delightful additions of their own, and there wasn’t a clean plate in the house once starters were cleared (nor was there a full glass, might we add).
With the bar set high, next the follow were the mains: Karoo loin chops served with potato gratin, roasted butternut and creamed spinach, served alongside a glass of Allesverloren Cabernet Sauvignon. Nothing beats the classic combination of steak and veggies, and the empty plates carted back to the kitchen would suggest we’re not alone in this sentiment!
Keeping to the theme of classic, winter-friendly treats and eats was dessert: traditional malva pudding served with Amarula creme anglaise, paired with Allesverloren Fine Old Vintage Port (and fine it was). Unsurprisingly, this dessert served as the perfect end to a perfect night.
