About Nederburg Wines
NEDERBURG: A STORY OF SOUTH AFRICAN WINE EXCELLENCE
Taste makers are calling South Africa the most exciting New World Wine country, and Nederburg is a prime example of why that is.
One of the country’s most distinguished names in wine, it has an unbeatable track record for international and local awards, trailblazing innovations and delicious, refreshing wines that combine rich fruit flavour with superb structure.
Classical style blends with contemporary taste in this multi-tiered, versatile range, where there’s a Nederburg to suit every occasion, palate and pocket.
ONCE UPON A TIME
Nederburg is based in Paarl, in the heart of the glorious Cape Winelands. It was here that founder Philippus Wolvaart established his farm in 1791. The gracious manor house he built in 1800 is a national monument. It lies at the center of the beautiful property that includes expansive vineyards, rolling lawns shaded by towering trees, a highly sophisticated cellar, wine tasting and conference center, a museum and The Red Table restaurant.
ADVANCED, SUSTAINABLE WINEMAKING
Nederburg’s viticulture and wine making teams work to the mantra of innovation and discovery, with a deep-rooted belief that one can never stop learning or finding ways of doing things better.
Multi-talented cellar-master Lizelle Gerber leads the team of highly-skilled winemakers. She is supported by two winemakers, who work closely under her direction. They are Samuel Viljoen, who produces the red wines, assisted by Zinaschke Steyn; and Elmarie Botes, who makes the whites, supported by Jamie Fredericks and Andiswa Mapheleba.
The cellar’s wine making philosophy is based on a deep respect for the land, the people involved in the growing and maintaining of the vineyards, those in the cellar and of course, wine lovers all over the world.
PEDIGREE AND INNOVATION
Ranked amongst the top 50 most admired brands in the world by Drinks International, Nederburg has won many leading international and local wine titles and awards over the years. These include most successful South African producer at the International Wine & Spirit Competition, Platter’s South African Wine Guide ‘Winery of the Year’, and Diners Club ‘Winemaker of the Year’, amongst others.
Nederburg was one of the first South African wine brands to enter the international market, and has been selling in Germany for over 30 years. Its wines are currently distributed in more than 80 countries, proudly representing the South African wine category.
Nederburg has been responsible for many important innovations in South African wine making. It has pioneered wine styles, viticultural excellence, new wine-growing areas, the planting of lesser-known cultivars and the use of oak barrels from Eastern Europe.
Nederburg features all the popular grape varietals in its wine range but is also experimenting with many of the lesser known ones from Albariño to Gewürztraminer, Graciano, Roussanne, Tempranillo, Tannat, Verdelho, Viura and more.
VISIT NEDERBURG IN PAARL
In addition to The Red Table restaurant housed in the historic manor house at the farm in Paarl, Nederburg runs a beautifully appointed tasting centre, offers a range of wine and food pairings and picnics, presents cellar tours (in German and French by arrangement) and invites visitors to its museum that highlights its history and achievements.
It also houses Qhubeka’s first bicycle assembly facility in the Western Cape. Here bicycles are built for distribution to vulnerable South Africans via various community-centred programmes affiliated with the Qhubeka non-profit organisation that operates to change lives through bicycles.
Guests are encouraged to follow Nederburg on social media, and/or to visit its website, for up-to-date information on its various offerings and events at the farm in Paarl.

About The Local Grill and Canvas
Since the inception of The Local Grill in 2002, we have been fortunate enough to share our beef journey with many farmers, butchers and customers. Following strict “field to fork” principles means that the beef is sourced from the best producers we can find, aged on the premises and cut to order.
This collaboration with beef producers has meant that over the years we have been able to showcase different breeds, beef from different regions and improve the offering year on year. The kitchen tours offered in Parktown North have further resulted in new relationships with farmers from far afield as Brazil and throughout Africa.
We are proud of what we have achieved, we remain passionate about the beef experience we offer each and every diner who visits The Local Grill, we are humbled and grateful for the numerous accolades and acknowledgments we continue to receive. We look forward to sharing our journey with so many more!
CANVAS, a heritage site in the restaurant hub of Parktown North, is a function venue for hosting bespoke events.
It is co-managed by The Local Grill. The house, with separate rooms, lends itself to large to small group events, and the tranquil, leafy courtyard offers a perfect outdoor setting.
Canvas can accommodate up to 140 seated guests indoors and 200 outdoors.
